Giving the Automobile a Home
Before a new model can be developed, extensive preliminary trials are necessary. In which automobile class should the model belong? Which new technologies should go into it? To which customer profile should it appeal? What is needed here are comprehensive concepts that not only deal with individual modules, but the entire vehicle.
The basis for these concepts, and ultimately how the automobile is built, is the so-called 'package plan'. It is here that the ergonomic and comfort dimensions which form the basis for further design are set. Technological requirements, from the range of engines to track gauges are worked in. The constantly modified package plan is the common thread of developmental work.
