Design Model Builder Exterior

Volke Design Model Building is one of the most respected addresses in the automobile industry.  Volke produces presentations models in a scale of 1:1, precise in detail designs, road-ready prototypes, and showcars.  Leading international modelers apply a foam core to a steel framework which then serves as the support for the plasticine layer (clay) on which the surface finish is applied.  The modelers work with tools such as scrapers made of stainless steel and flexible splines.

Because modeling with clay is a sculptural process, during the development, while adding or removing material, the form can be changed at any time.  When, in terms of shape, volume, and proportion the design model is exactly right, the highlights are inspected.  The surface is worked on with precision down to a 100th of a millimeter so long until it is perfectly defined in terms of reflection and the flow of light.

Before working on the model further, its data is recorded via Tritop photogrammetric scanning.  Now a negative-mould of the model in the form of a thin-walled shell made of epoxy resin and glass fiber mats.  After demoulding, it is cleaned, sanded, spackled, then again sanded so that the shape of the exterior remains stable.  A vision has indeed become reality.
