Engine Cooling and Component Temperatures

To be able to evaluate engine cooling and critical component temperatures under extreme conditions, Volke carries out extensive measurements in-house vehicle climate chambers (LINK, if avail.) and with our own brake dynamometer (LINK, if avail.)  For this purpose, for example, temperature measurement points are placed in the engine compartment and in the area of the exhaust system, cooling water flow rate amounts are determined, vehicle stresses during driving tests and with the brake dynamometer and on the roller dynamometer are tested in the climate chamber.  Special measurements are also possible.  In this way, energy balance tests in the cold start phase can be carried out, in order to evaluate the heat input.  With these results, additional measures, such as an auxiliary heater or increased generator load, can be recommended that will speed up heating the interior.
