Psychoacoustics

Noises are decisive when it comes to the subjective impressions of vehicle comfort.  Within the realm of psychoacoustics, Volke records noises with a dummy head system, and then analyzes these noises relative to psychoacoustic measurement parameters such as loudness, roughness, and sharpness.  By making recordings in accordance with human hearing characteristics and their faithful re-creation during playback, direct hearing comparisons are possible.  Through classic and psychoacoustic analyses, subjective perceptions can be objectified.  And this applies not only to engine and wind noises, but also to noises when the closing doors, raising or lowering windows, or activating electric mechanisms in the seats.  In Sound Design, noises are synthetically optimized, thus making it possible to quickly and efficiently define the desired sounds.  Volke carries out these tests either in the company's own noise measuring chambers or at the customer's location.
