Design Model shop & Milling center

Volke's design model shop has been one of the most renowned addresses in Europe's automotive industry for decades. It combines state-of-the-art technology with excellent craftsmanship. It produces elaborate designs, roadworthy prototypes, clinical models, and concept cars for world premieres.

Design Model shop

Exterior

Presentation models in scales 1:1, 1:2.5 and 1:4.

  • Proportional, clay, hard, see-through and walk-through models
  • Basic structure to the final finish
  • Surfaces in the hundredths of a millimeter range
  • Data collection as a basis for further design measures

Interior

Our seating boxes offer the opportunity to evaluate new designs on a real object.

  • Taking package specifications into account, various components are positioned in an aluminum base support as a wood and foam substructure.
  • Close cooperation with the in-house saddlery for better assessment of the interior components

Painting

With our own color mixing systems, we can fulfill every color request.

  • Vacuum vapor deposition system for chrome-reflective surface
  • From smaller decorative frames and letters to 1.9 m long decorative strips
  • Paint booths for objects up to 7.5 m x 3.5 m x 3.5 m

Optical 3D measurement

Data collection as a basis for further design measures

  • Optical strip sensor for detecting the modeled surfaces
  • Continuous monitoring of the accuracy of the models produced, including target/actual comparison in the CAD surface data.

Small parts studio

This is where our small parts are made.

  • Attachments such as exterior mirrors, radiator grilles, headlights and switches as detailed hard models for clay models.
  • Collaboration with designers for the perfect result

Laminate studio

Laminates are part of the future.

  • Ideal for wind turbine blades, vehicle bodies, optical cladding, etc.
  • Use of glass fiber and carbon fiber reinforced plastic for stability and low weight
  • Use of visible carbon for optical highlights

Trim Studio/Saddlery

With a keen sense for the right material, the parts are crafted with craftsmanship down to the smallest detail.

  • Seats receive shape, upholstery and fine fabric or leather covers
  • Dashboards and steering wheels are covered with leather
  • Machine sewing and, if desired, finishing with seams, appliqués and embossing

Concept cars

We design and develop fully functional and drivable concept vehicles as well as vehicles suitable for trade fairs (show cars).

  • Merging the departments of concept development, body/prototype construction, exterior/interior model construction, CAD/CAM milling center, laminating studio, as well as small parts and lighting studio
  • Surface finishing by paint shop and trim studio for the perfect finish

Milling center & Rapid Prototyping

Precision in original size

We are highly flexible in terms of product size, shape, and material. We specialize in the rapid production of complete, full-size models from the following materials:

  • Rigid foam
  • Clay
  • Paste application
  • and almost all materials – from polystyrene to aluminum

Our large machines

  • 2 Zimmermann FZ37 Gen2
    9000 x 4000 x 2500 mm
    60 m/min Vmax, 24000 U/min Smax
  • 2 Zimmermann FZ37 Gen1
    7000 x 3500 x 2500 mm
    20 m/min Vmax, 18000 U/min Smax

and other machines with milling areas ranging in size from 4500 x 2800 x 1250 mm to 700 x 600 x 450 mm

Machine list
We consolidate all processes from design and development to the finished product under one roof. This means closely networked, efficient work and fast decision-making processes.
  • With our years of experience, we also implement new product ideas or innovative components from other industries.
  • You can flexibly choose between pure design models and fully equipped functional models.

Rapid Prototyping

The rapid prototyping process enables the rapid production of physical models from three-dimensional CAD data

  • Few limits in size, shape and material
  • Components up to 1000 x 800 x 500 mm

Steel and sheet metal workshop

The basis of models and exhibits must be functional, effective and robust.

  • Stable base frames for heavy exterior plasticine models as well as fine sheet metal for vehicle bodies
  • Base frames adapted to vehicle class with hydraulically adjustable wheel supports
